The Gertrude’s Spotted Blue Eye Rainbowfish, (Pseudomugil gertrudae) is one of the lesser widespread variants of the Blue Eye Rainbowfish and is native to Indonesia, New Guinea, and Australia.  It lives in very large schools in areas with dense vegetation, so it is an ideal for the planted aquarium.
 Size: 2 cm

 Males display iridescent yellow and blue colouration on their bodies and fins, particularly while competing with other males. The second dorsal and anal fins of males become very extended and fan-like with maturity.  Females are typically smaller and often possess an attractive orange-yellow hue. 

The entire family of rainbowfish is popular in freshwater aquaria due to the generally peaceful disposition, hardiness, and beautiful colouration of its members.  While many popular rainbowfish species eventually become too large to be kept with dwarf shrimp and some other nano species, Gertrude’s Spotted Blue Eye Rainbowfish is one of a few exceptions.  Fully grown rainbowfish of this species are typically safe to keep even with adult dwarf shrimp and virtually all non-aggressive invertebrates that we offer. 

What We Like About This Fish:
  • Active, schooling community fish that thrives in planted aquariums
  • Compatible with most invertebrates, including dwarf shrimp
  • Adults (especially males) display colourful, ornate finnage
  • Among the smallest of the Blue Eye Rainbowfish
 
RECOMMENDED TANK PARAMETERS:
  • Temperature:  72° - 82° F (22° - 28° C)
  • pH:  4.5 - 7.5
  • KH:  12 - 15 dKH
  • Minimum tank size:  10 gallons
 
CARE GUIDELINES: 
  • Diet:  Omnivorous.  High-quality dry foods will be accepted but should be supplemented often with small, meaty frozen and live foods.
  • Social behaviour:  Schooling/shoaling, and should be kept in as large of groups as possible.  Peaceful with most other comparably sized fish but is timid and can be outcompeted for food.  Usually compatible with adult dwarf shrimp and other invertebrates.
  • Origin:  Tank-Bred, but indigenous to Indonesia, New Guinea, Northern Australia
  • Average adult size:  1.2 - 1.5 inches (3 - 3.8 cm)
  • Average purchase size:  .5 - 1 inch (1.2 - 2.5 cm)

  • For any livestock, you have in your order. If there is any dead problem during transportation. You can send us an email and the video of you receiving the package, if there is more than 50% damage, we will send a replacement, and if less than 50% we will send store credit.

Our shop always delivers healthy shrimp and fish with the best color of their own.

However, the shrimp and fish you receive may be discolored and the reason of this issue is strong vibration during transportation and they're not be fed during the transport period

To handle this problem we highly recommend to you:

🚩Let the fish relax helps them adapt to any changes in water temperature in the tank. Also prevents pH shock - an imbalance between the water in the shop tank and your tank.

🚩Place the fish bag in a cool, corner, and dark place. Prevent the bag from being bumped, slipped, or dropped. This'll give your new fish a good recovery and acclimatization after a shaky ride from the shop to your home. 

🚩Feed your old fish first to distract them, preventing them from bullying your new fish.

🚩Your new aquarium tank should have a pH of zero ammonia and chlorine before adding new fish.

🚩Turn off the lights, reduce the glare in the room, or limit the light entering the aquarium. This will help the new fish not be stressed.

  • Providing them with excellent water quality, giving them a good environment, and feeding them.
  • Fish that live in exceptional-quality water conditions shine brighter and are far more vibrant
