Eriocaulon Udonthani

Description

Eriocaulon is decorations of every aquarium. They blend in with any decorative stones, roots, create and emphasize complex landscapes designs. They are a great fit for an aquarium of any volume. Possible to use as foreground and background decoration. The main disadvantage of these exotic plants being their difficult cultivation. It's possible so say that successfull maintaining of this group of plants is a credit to any aquarist.

Eriocaulon is a very unusual plant and immediately catches the eye, eclipsing by its decorative look all other plants grown in the aquarium. Especially beautiful Eriocaulons that are grown in groups of 3-5 bushes, but by itself the plant is also pretty. In designer aquariums this plant is used to visually mark the line between the front and middle plans.

Maintaining Eriocaulon in the aquarium is simple and complex at the same time. Simple for those who have already experienced in maintaining high tech tanks. Because those conditions are needed for normal life and beautiful appearance of Eriocaulons. Soil, strong productive filtration system, CO2 supply, strong light and the daily application of fertilizers. In general - all the "charms" of high tech tanks. Regarding lighting the aquariums with Eriocaulons, on the Internet you can find information about necessary intensity of not less than 1 watt per liter and for no less than 12 hours. In authors' experience it is not the case in the real world at all. Eriocaulons grow and multiply well at light of 0.6 watt per liter (40-50Lm / l) at day light of 10 hours. There is also no need to constantly apply CO2. Plants thrive as well on daily feed only. But noted that with a night aeration Eriocaulon's look have somewhat improved. Water parameters to maintain Eriocaulon can advise as following: the temperature of 24-26 0 C, dkH 1-4 0, GH 4-8 0, pH 5,5-6.8. Due to the fact that the root system Eriocaulon is huge and sometimes exceed the plant itself several times over, the ground height should be at least 8-9cm. It is also worth noting that the soil should be nutritious.

The benefit of plants

The aquarium Eriocaulon can be divided into 3 groups. The first group - a plant for the background. Second - for the middle and the third - a front or section between the middle and the foreground.

Eriocaulon Udonthani in the third group, the best fit for decoration foreground. Hundreds of needles 1 mm thick and 5-6 cm long in bright green color are collected in one outlet, creating the impression that in the aquarium has lodged a green sea urchin.

Using Eriocaulon in aquascape fraught with some problems of aesthetic plan. It is believed that because of its remarkable appearance Eriocaulons are more "alien" in the aquascape and do not meet the requirements of a "natural aquarium". This can be read in the article "Eriocaulon in the aquascape". However, thanks to its unusual appearance they look amazing in a planted aquarium or in any other. But still it is desirable to contain these species to the aquarium in which live only representatives Eriocaulaceae family. Such an aquarium will suit all kinds Eriocaulons and also their closest relatives - Syngonanthus or Toninas. Consistency of water parameters will promote healthy appearance of plants and of the entire tank as a whole
