Rare Anubias - White
Rare Anubias White Care Guide
Anubias White is a rare and highly sought-after Anubias variety. Because the white portions of the leaves contain little to no chlorophyll, the plant grows more slowly and requires more attention than standard green Anubias varieties.
Care Requirements
🌱 Lighting
- Moderate to high lighting, but avoid excessive intensity.
- Provide 6–8 hours of light per day.
- Too little light can slow growth significantly, while overly strong light may cause the white leaves to burn.
🌱 CO₂
- Not essential, but highly recommended.
- Supplemental CO₂ promotes healthier growth and helps maintain vibrant white coloration.
🌱 Fertilization
- Regular dosing of both macro and micronutrients is recommended.
- Pay particular attention to iron (Fe), potassium (K), and trace elements.
- Nutrient deficiencies can lead to yellowing or deterioration of the white leaves.
🌱 Temperature
- Ideal range: 22–28°C (72–82°F).
- Stable temperatures help minimize plant stress.
🌱 Placement
- Do not bury the rhizome in the substrate.
- Attach the plant to driftwood or rocks, as with other Anubias species.
Important Notes
⚠️ Pure white leaves cannot photosynthesize, so the plant relies on its green leaf tissue for energy.
⚠️ If the plant produces too many white leaves and too few green ones, it may weaken over time.
⚠️ Growth is naturally very slow; a single new leaf may take several weeks or even months to develop.
Ideal Water Parameters
- pH: 6.0–7.5
- GH: 3–12 dGH
- TDS: 100–250 ppm
- Nitrate (NO₃): 5–20 ppm
Anubias White performs best in a stable, well-maintained planted aquarium with moderate lighting and optional CO₂ supplementation, where it can maintain a healthy balance between its striking white foliage and enough green tissue to sustain long-term growth.
