The ghost knifefish (Apteronotus albifrons) is a tropical fish belonging to the ghost knifefish family(Apteronotidae). They originate in freshwater habitats in South America where they range from Venezuela to the Paraguay–Paraná River, including the Amazon Basin.[1] They are popular in aquaria. The fish is all black except for two white rings on its tail, and a white blaze on its nose, which can occasionally extend into a stripe down its back. It moves mainly by undulating a long fin on its underside. It will grow to a length of 18"-20". Only a fish for those with large aquariums, minimum 100 gallons.
✅Author Note: You should also make sure you perform 20-25 percent water changes on a weekly basis. This is one of the most important aspects of bumblebee catfish care and will make sure they’re living in a healthy tank. It will also greatly reduce the risk of disease and sickness.
In captivity, you should be giving them a well-balanced diet from various sources. High-quality pellet or flake foods are a great place to start (make sure they sink). It’s also smart to mix in some frozen and live foods as well.
Food like larvae, bloodworms, earthworms, and daphnia are all great sources of protein that will also provide your bumblebee catfish with some enrichment. Make sure to use these in a supplemental capacity so you maintain balance in their diet and don’t overfeed them!
The ghost knife is extremely laid back and shy. This is amplified by the fact that they’re nocturnal. This means during the day they will typically be tucked away in one of their favorite hiding places until it gets dark or time to eat.
While some aquarists don’t like this because they want to see a lot of activity from their fish, we kind of like it. If you plan your tank around this behavior you can actually see them quite often without disturbing them!
To help give you a starting point, here are some great tank mates that aquarists have had success with for years:
Rainbow sharks
Cory catfish
Bristlenose plecos
Dwarf gourami
Kuhli loaches
Various barbs
Platies
This is really just scratching the surface when it comes to good bumblebee catfish tank mates. As long as they aren’t super aggressive or significantly smaller than the microglanis iheringi (like the neon tetra), you’re going to be fine.

However, the shrimp and fish you receive may be discolored and the reason of this issue is strong vibration during transportation and they're not be fed during the transport period
To handle this problem we highly recommend to you:
🚩Let the fish relax helps them adapt to any changes in water temperature in the tank. Also prevents pH shock - an imbalance between the water in the shop tank and your tank.
🚩Place the fish bag in a cool, corner, and dark place. Prevent the bag from being bumped, slipped, or dropped. This'll give your new fish a good recovery and acclimatization after a shaky ride from the shop to your home.
🚩Feed your old fish first to distract them, preventing them from bullying your new fish.
🚩Your new aquarium tank should have a pH of zero ammonia and chlorine before adding new fish.
🚩Turn off the lights, reduce the glare in the room, or limit the light entering the aquarium. This will help the new fish not be stressed.

All of my shrimp arrived healthy ( 30 Blue Diamond ), as they grow it looks like I have 18 females and 12 males. It's now been a month and 2 of my beautiful females are now buried. I'm so excited to have baby's in a few weeks. So 5 stars from me.
Great addition to my tank. Very active swimmers and get along great with my Neon Tetra's, Ember Tetra's and cherry shrimp.
I had my Tiger Pleco shipped. It arrived in healthy condition. It is thriving in my tank now 3 weeks later. I would recommend this service and this fish! It's already grown quite a lot and seems very happy in its new home.
The perfect addition to any community tank- these guys settled in nicely and already gotten along with my other corys. They are so amusing to watch swim around with eachother. Micro aquatic shop delivered them to me packaged safely and in great condition.
Got myself 6 Amanpa Redbacks a month ago. A week ago a pair spawned and are caring for a clutch of free swimmers in a community tank. 2 days ago another trio (female, 2 males) spawned in the tank also. I am going to be over run with Angels if these keep breeding like this lol.
