Seachem PhosBond 1L
Seachem PhosBond™
Seachem PhosBond™ is an advanced phosphate and silicate removal media designed for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. It combines two highly effective materials—aluminum oxide and granular ferric oxide (GFO)—to provide rapid phosphate reduction while maintaining a high binding capacity. This hybrid composition allows PhosBond™ to act faster than standard phosphate removers while remaining efficient for extended periods.
Its unique structure features a highly porous surface that increases the available area for phosphate and silicate adsorption, ensuring maximum effectiveness. Additionally, PhosBond™ is physically durable, meaning it won’t break down under mechanical stress or deteriorate in high-flow conditions. Unlike some phosphate removers, it does not release phosphate or silicate back into the water, making it a reliable long-term solution for maintaining water quality.
Benefits of Seachem PhosBond™:
- Rapid phosphate and silicate removal – Quickly reduces unwanted nutrients that contribute to algae growth.
- High binding capacity – Offers long-lasting effectiveness compared to standard phosphate removers.
- Durable composition – Resistant to crumbling or degradation under high flow.
- Safe for freshwater and saltwater – Versatile application for various aquarium setups.
- Prevents phosphate leaching – Once bound, phosphate and silicate remain locked, reducing the risk of reintroduction.
Directions for Use:
- Rinse PhosBond™ before use to remove dust or loose particles.
-
Placement: Position in a high-flow area to maximize water contact. Suitable locations include:
- Canister filters
- Media reactors
- Filter chambers
- High-flow sections of sump or trickle filters
-
Dosing:
- Use 60 mL (1/4 cup) per 200 L of saltwater or 400 L of freshwater.
- After 4 days, test phosphate and silicate levels.
- If levels remain high, replace the PhosBond™ with fresh media. If levels are sufficiently reduced, leave it in place until they begin to rise again.
- Continuous use of smaller amounts is more effective than intermittent large doses.
- Exhaustion: Once PhosBond™ reaches its capacity, it should be replaced with a new batch. It can be dried and reused until fully exhausted.
Usage Tips:
- Avoid fluidizing PhosBond™ in reactors, as excessive movement may cause wear and reduce efficiency.
- Using a fine mesh bag can help contain the media while maintaining proper water flow.
- Test phosphate and silicate levels regularly to determine the best replacement schedule.
By reducing phosphate and silicate levels, Seachem PhosBond™ helps prevent nuisance algae growth, promoting a cleaner, healthier aquarium environment.
