Seachem Purigen 1L
Seachem Purigen is a high-performance synthetic filtration resin designed to improve water quality in both freshwater and marine aquariums by removing organic pollutants. Its unique ability to target nitrogenous organic compounds before they break down into harmful substances such as ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate makes it an essential tool for maintaining a clean and healthy environment for fish, invertebrates, and plants. What sets Purigen apart from other filter media is its selective affinity for organic waste, leaving important trace elements in the water untouched, which is particularly beneficial for planted or reef aquariums.
Key Benefits:
- Organic removal: Purigen actively removes dissolved organic waste, including proteins, amino acids, and waste by-products, preventing them from breaking down into more toxic substances.
- Improved water clarity: It polishes the water, making it crystal clear, which is especially beneficial for aquariums with high biological loads or those struggling with water discoloration.
- High capacity: Purigen has a very high absorption capacity, lasting longer than other filtration media like activated carbon.
- Reusable: It can be regenerated multiple times using a simple bleach solution, making it a cost-effective, long-term solution for water filtration.
How to Use:
Purigen is designed to be used in a filter bag and placed in the filter system of your aquarium, such as a canister filter, hang-on-back filter, or internal filter. It should be positioned where water can flow through it freely, ensuring maximum contact with the water for optimal filtration efficiency.
Before use, it’s recommended to rinse the Purigen under tap water to remove any dust particles that may have formed during packaging. Once placed in the filter, it begins working immediately to remove organic waste and clarify the water.
Dosage:
- Use 250 mL of Purigen for every 1,000 liters of aquarium water.
- For smaller tanks, use the appropriate amount proportionally, ensuring you adjust the size of the filter bag if needed.
Regeneration:
When Purigen becomes saturated with organic waste, its color changes from a pale white to dark brown or black, signaling the need for regeneration. To regenerate Purigen:
- Soak it in a 1:1 bleach solution (non-scented household bleach) for 24 hours in a non-metallic container in a well-ventilated area.
- Rinse thoroughly and soak in a dechlorinator (like Seachem Prime) for 8 hours to neutralize any bleach residues.
- Rinse again with freshwater before placing it back into your aquarium.
This regeneration process can be repeated multiple times, extending the life of Purigen and making it a more sustainable filtration choice compared to single-use filter media.
In summary, Seachem Purigen is a powerful and reusable filtration media that offers high capacity for organic waste removal, improving water clarity and overall water quality. It is a versatile option suitable for both freshwater and marine tanks and can be easily regenerated for long-term use.
