Where To Buy Green Jade Shrimp (Good Price) For Sale At The Fish Online Store Near Me?

by Catherine Tran 16 Aug 2023 0 Comments

“Hey there, I’m a newbie and I’m looking to buy shrimp that are easy to care for, agile and unique in colour to start my aquatic journey. Does anyone know what kind of shrimp I should start with today and is there a fish shop online that sells them cheap?” - Ryan from Melbourne

Great! If you are here and have the same question as Ryan then this is exactly what I want to share with you in this article.

We'll take a quick look at the green jade's life cycle, uncovering the secrets of this green shrimp and its effective care for beginners.

At the end of the article, I will show you some online aquarium shops to buy Green Jade Cherry Shrimp at a good price.

Some people compare them to leaves that can move in the water. As for me, they are the green giant hero - Hulk in Marvel Universal.

And now let's explore the stories surrounding the green giant - Green Jade Cherry Shrimp.

The Green Jade Shrimp is one of my favourite members of the Neocaridina family.

They were always dark green, strong, and really like jade and now you know why I raving about the green giant saving the world

It can be funny in this case that you are establishing your own green jade corporation and protecting the world from invading monsters.

Sorry… I just screw it up! 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Your Green Jade shrimp will not be able to survive in an aquarium with coppery water.

To avoid an unfortunate situation.

Honestly, I have said many times please pay attention to the source of the water and how it is treated before releasing the shrimp.

I’ll show you how to use a copper water test kit before adding Green Jade Shrimp to your aquarium.

pH-test-kit

It's not much more expensive than shrimp. But it will save any amount of reverse that you can add to the aquarium in the future.

The one I used is easy to use and has 90 tests. Great for seasoned owners but so cheap that new aquarists don't need to worry about the price.

I will leave the link here and you can easily click to view it for free.

💡Pro's Note: Do not treat any sick fish in the same tank that you keep your green jade shrimp. Many drugs have a high copper content and will easily kill the green shrimp.

Instead, get rid of the sick fish and treat them in a separate tank to treat the sick fish. Again, the cost of setting up a 10-gallon individual treatment tank is less than what you would spend buying a handful of shrimp.

Don't put shrimp at unnecessary risk with fish medication (I'm screaming in vain!!)

Green jade comes from the eastern seaboard, living in slow-moving waters with lots of plants. This is something that Blue Jade Shrimp have ingrained in their DNA.

To build a good green jade shrimp tank, you just need to simulate what is in nature, water flow, and aquatic plants and I will show you in the next part.

Let's move to the tank setup. I have two ideas to make an aquarium for green jade and you can take a look to get a feel:

Create plenty of surface area with rocks for them to walk on.

Ideally, I've used flat rocks to give structure to them to walk around on the rock surface.

If you want to be creative, you can choose round rock, shrimp cave roofs or wood, but rough rock surfaces are not welcome in a green jade tank!

If it is a shrimp cave make sure there is enough room for 5 members, as for the wood it will change the colour of the water in your tank, it won't harm the shrimp but in my opinion, the yellow watercolour reduces the beauty of the turquoise of green jade and I don't like this.

The second way that I create more space for the shrimp to move around is by planting tall trees. I’m talking about algae and algae balls.

These create the trunk that the green Jade Shrimp can climb on. Plants will grow algae on them, catching fish waste and general debris, giving the shrimp a full view of the aquarium and protecting them from any predators.

These are always great areas for shrimp to relax all day.

I will leave the shopping link for you here, watch it for free now.

You also need to pay attention to the filter that cleans the water so that they always breathe healthy.

Plus, you'll likely need an air stone and an air pump to keep the water oxygenated.

Gravel is the best choice, with sand being ok and bare bottom or no substrate being most beneficial to the green jade community.

Gravel makes it easier for shrimp to pick up food and creates more surface area for algae to grow

Sand holds nitrates and provides some area for algae to grow. It is usually more expensive than gravel and much harder to keep clean.

So what are the benefits of an empty bottom aquarium for the shrimp?

The advantage of no substrate is that it is inexpensive and very easy to keep clean. But just making sure there's no substrate means you can't safely bury plants or grow rocks.

Green Jade shrimp require a minimum tank size of 5 gallons (19 litres), a 10-gallon (38 litres) tank is ideal for a small colony of shrimp or if you plan to keep them with a few tank mates.

They develop strongly in water conditions:

✅ pH: 6.8-7.5

✅Temperature: 75-83 °F

✅Hardness range: 8-20 dkh

The green jade diet with a fish-free tank is twice a week, up to four times a week.

They will hunt algae when there is no food so you can rest assured that they will not go hungry.

💡 Important Note: You should monitor the algae growth to see if you need to feed them more or less. If algae grows fast then reduce feeding. If the algae are receding then you need to feed more. If the algae have barely changed, you're feeding them the right amount of food.

Ideally, I would like the algae to grow very slowly, meaning the shrimp are well-fed so that they don't eat the algae as fast as they grow.

I will clean the glass in the aquarium and remove a lot of algae, which will make the shrimp live on the algae.

And when I keep them in the community tank I feed them at most once a week.

They can usually get enough food from whatever the fish misses along with the waste produced by the fish.

What to feed them other algae?

Green Jade Shrimp will eat anything that is put in the tank. You can use:

✅Planted vegetables (e.g. spinach, zucchini, peas)

✅biofilm

✅shrimp in brine

✅Prepared shrimp powder or pellets

✅spirulina

✅frozen bloodworms

Avoid overfeeding because when the food is not fully consumed, it breaks down into waste, which becomes ammonia.

The substance will be broken down into nitrite by bacteria and this will leave both nitrite and ammonia loose in the tank, which can easily begin to kill tank organisms.

Don't worry if shrimp overlap during feeding time. This is normal and they don't do anything to hurt each other in doing so.

Let's take a look at some good tank mates for green jade shrimp.

Cory catfish

Otocinclus Catfish

Tetra

If you're looking forward to the breeding part, good news for you

They breed extremely easily and will quickly produce more shrimp than most people expect.

You’ll need to pay attention to the female that is transparent or slightly translucent and a yellow dot can be easily seen on the back of the female's head as they prepare to spawn.

When you intend to clone the green jade corporation here are some tank conditions that you need to prepare:

✅Keep the water parameters stable.

✅Make sure food is always ready.

✅Provides many hiding places.

✅Do not allow any predators into the tank.

Since shrimp spawn so easily, I don't recommend overfeeding just for them to spawn.

Pregnant shrimp will keep the eggs in their stomach until they are released.

They will eat and drink normally, so you don't need to do anything special to take care of these baby shrimp.

To ensure the highest membership rate, it is recommended to keep the fry in separate tanks until they are mature and ready for the next life cycle.
