It has no roots and must be fixed onto the substrate using weights. In its natural habitat, it gets anchored by the base leaves that often act as roots. These usually get fixed onto the water sediment. Alternatively, the plant can be obstructed in free flowing water. If nothing plucks it from there, it stays put and grows to maturity.
The stems of the plant are long, smooth and quite delicate. They can reach lengths of 3m and diameters of 2mm. They are often suspended by branches deep down the sediment. From the stem are green forked leaves that are well arranged in whorls of between 7 and 12. In case the plant is anchored in a substrate, it develops rhizoids.
During the periods between July and September, flowers are produced. Except in very unique cases, the hornwort flower is relatively small, measuring about 2mm. Around it are 8 greenish- brown petals, sometimes more.
It has a variety of uses in the aquarium. This include a source of food to fish. Most fish species like the goldfish find it a useful delicacy for their nutritional needs. They also find the shady plant leaves great for resting.
It is an oxygenating plant. It provides oxygen to the water which is useful for fish. It also has an allelopathetic characteristics and because of this, it is able to excrete substances into the water than inhibit the growth of algae. Hobbyists keeping fish that do not require algae growth would find it very ideal.
It fulfils nutritional needs of baby fish. With its spiky needles, the adult fish cannot bully the juveniles as the needles keep the adults away from them. As it grows enormously, it provides excellent location for fish spawning.
In case a good anchor is not found for it, the plant can be left to float freely in the tank.

Other things to consider before placing an order:
* Check to see if your tank has enough space.
* Ensure your tank is fully cycled.
* Ensure your new livestock is compatible tank mates for any other fish you currently have (in terms of habitat, species, requirements, temperament, and size)
* Ensure that your water parameters, habitat and temperature are suitable for the species you want to introduce.
* Do not stock your tank too quickly, or suddenly a large influx of fish can unbalance your water parameters that will affect the water quality.
* Do not feed your new fish for 24hrs. They need time to settle in and feel at home. Feeding them too quickly puts their health at risk, and it can even affect your water quality. If you have existing fish in your aquarium, feeding them before releasing the new fish is a good idea.
* Don’t be alarmed if, upon arrival, your fish, shrimp or snail look pale or lethargic. This is normal behaviour while in transit, and they should return to full colour and vibrancy after settling into their new home for a few days.
Also, be aware that livestock often gets stress and lose their colours after the long travel to you, this often happened to most livestock ( shrimps, guppies, plecos, and so on, kindly make sure you have the right set up, the aquarium must be fully cycled with the ideal parameters. Fishes and shrimps will often take from 3-7 days to fully adapt to the new home. If you have any concerns with your set up kindly talk to us or check out some online tutorials before purchase.

However, the shrimp and fish you receive may be discolored and the reason of this issue is strong vibration during transportation and they're not be fed during the transport period
To handle this problem we highly recommend to you:
🚩Let the fish relax helps them adapt to any changes in water temperature in the tank. Also prevents pH shock - an imbalance between the water in the shop tank and your tank.
🚩Place the fish bag in a cool, corner, and dark place. Prevent the bag from being bumped, slipped, or dropped. This'll give your new fish a good recovery and acclimatization after a shaky ride from the shop to your home.
🚩Feed your old fish first to distract them, preventing them from bullying your new fish.
🚩Your new aquarium tank should have a pH of zero ammonia and chlorine before adding new fish.
🚩Turn off the lights, reduce the glare in the room, or limit the light entering the aquarium. This will help the new fish not be stressed.
